"'Work Play' is a song that is basically about wanting to be paid better. Less work and more pay. So that I can afford to lie around in bed and share memes. And so that I can have more time in bed with my
many kept lovers. Who I look after financially so that they can also hang around in bed.
The song was mostly written on the spot in the studio, I only had some lyrics and a couple of chord ideas before we started laying things down. After Perrin put the drums down he also added lots of pretty wild percussion including one of those skin tambourines that you change the pitch of the skin with your fingers. A star of the song indeed."

lyrics
I only work to pay
for what I need to survive to lay
in bed
and send stoopid pictures to my friends
I only work to pay
for a roof over where we play
in bed
coz these sessy bishes don't pay rent
I only work to pay
to live to play
it only works today
if tomorrow i have it my way
shoogie daddy
I only work to pay
to eat to survive to lay
in bed
and send funny pictures to my head
I only work to pay
for a roof over where we play
in bed
coz these sessy bishes don't pay rent
I only work to pay
to live to play
it only works
if i have it my way
I wanna work less for more
I wanna keep my babies warm
Iwanna rise when it's sunny with a fist full of money
I want many money more
what is it for
more shoogi more papi keep the babies happy
I wanna work less for more
many money more
more time for the babies jack a dull boy crazy
shoogie daddy
bringing home the bread to bed
so that my boys and girls get fed
crumbs in bed
they always on my head
and that's the way i like it
(so I'm always)
This was not what I expected! I thought this was a pop group (first time hearing this band) but I had to eat my hat because this band defies genre. The vocalist reminds me a little of kpop (and maybe 2010 Sleigh Bells if that makes sense), I happen to like both so thought that was cool. If you are a fan of complex piano layers and brass check this out! Also, the bassist and drummer are insane in here. I choked hearing one of the riffs it was that good! nvan92
Like so many others, this came like a bolt out of the blue and, even though it's well before payday, I had to have this astonishing album on vinyl to prove it exists. The feel of the tunes makes me feel like the Impressions do, Curtis Mayfield, the big spaces and instinctive horns and stuff drifting in and out. Great grooves and I can see lots of ghosts nodding along to this with big smiles on their faces. At last! Anthony Cottrell
